- Cellular respiration is the process by which organisms mix oxygen with food molecules, transferring the chemical energy in these molecules to life-sustaining processes while discarding carbon dioxide and water as waste products.
- Each alveolus has a cup-like shape and thin walls. It's surrounded by a network of thin-walled blood arteries called capillaries. The oxygen you breathe in diffuses into the bloodstream through the alveoli and capillaries.
- What's the difference between breathing and cellular respiration? The method your body takes oxygen into the lungs from the air outside is through respiration (breathing). The process through which your cells produce ATP, a substance that provides energy for chemical processes, is referred to as cellular respiration.
