- once upon a time there was a boy, who loved to ride his bike, his name was Henry Molaison
- he had a brain condition, he suffered from very bad seisures since he was 10 years old
- The seizures were getting worse and worse as he was growing
- And that was affecting negatively his brain so he was being treated but the treatment was not working
- "He has to have surgery, we have to remove a part of the brain for the seizures to stop"
- I think is the best option, im 27 years old now and I want to get better, my family and I talked about this
- Many years later....
- The surgery went perfect, we remove your hippocampus so you won't have more seizures!!!
- That is how everyone noticed something was wrong with him. he started suffering from interograde amnesia (an inability to form new memories after the time of damage to the brain
- I can't create new memories, I can't remember anything new, what is wrong with me
- Hey were is my uncle Tom?
- His memories from events before 1950 w(three years before his surgery), were fine, but he could not make new memories after. There was also no observable difference to his personality or to his intelligence.
- Three years later...
- Honey he died three years ago after your surgery
- which means there is Localization of function in the brain” means that different parts of the brain have different functions.
- the only behaviour that was affected by the removal of the hippocampus was his memory. Wich means.. Hippocampus creates new-long term memories
- HM’s study suggests that the hippocampus is essential for explicit (conscious) and declarative memory, but not implicit (unconscious) procedural memory.
