1 more year to go and I'm done improving this free land!
Boomtowns/Mining
I knew I'd find gold!!!!!
The railroad connected NM to other parts of the country. People used the railroad to travel longer distances faster to trade other goods, machinery for mining, and equipment for farmers and ranchers to produce more crops.
Harvey Houses
it was amazing and so affordable!
How was the food?
The Homestead act was 160 acres of free land offered by the government . In order to keep this land, you would have to live on it for 5 years and improve it in any kind of way. The land was mainly used for farming and ranching.
Tourism
I love visiting the railroad
Boomtowns were towns that spring up quickly around a single industry such as mining. Boomtowns attracted people from all over the world to mine. People mined materials such as gold, silver, coal, turquoise, and copper. Once there were no more materials, boomtows became gohst towms
Wild West
I need to find a place to hide!
Harvey houses were restaurants/ hotels that were located along the railroad line. They provided good food and affordable prices. Harvey houses hired women only because men were unreliable, and dirty, and rude. The women became known as the Harvey girls. The Harvey Girls lived upstairs and were not allowed to talk while working, wear makeup, or chew gum. People who visited the Harvey Houses appreciated the Harvey Girls.
The railroad brought many visitors. When people visited, they bought souvenirs like Indian pottery and rugs. Visitors loved learning about the Southwest culture however, some people stole pieces of Indian pottery and insulted the Southwest culture.
The Wild West was lawless because there was very few law men and it was a great place for outlaws to hide. Corruption grew, because of" Santa Fe Ring". Everybody in the Southwest carried guns with them and used the them to solve their problems. Also land grants creeated disputes.
