- A conference was led by Chancellor Otto von Bismarck to cover events such as European countries' access to trade routes in Africa, attempts being made to stop slave trade in Africa, banning the import of firearms into Africa, and European control over African territories. The conference led to the creation of the Treaty of Berlin.
