It's a cold and gloomy night when Mr.White and his son Herbert are playing chess near the fireplace. They are waiting for a guest, Sergeant-Major Morris who arrives and tells the White family about a monkeys paw he found in India when he was traveling to exotic places.
Sergeant-Major Morris explains how the paw grants 3 wishes and warns the White's that it's dangerous but Mr.White wants it anyway. Morris even throws the paw into the fireplace but Mr.White rescues it and wishes for 200 pounds. The paw moves and they hear a loud crash.
The next day the Whites receive news that their son Herbert was dead as he got caught in machinery. They are given 200 pounds in compensation. They realize that the money they get is in turn for their son's life. Grief sets in after losing their son and Mrs. White becomes hysterical.
HERBERT!!!!
One night while the Whites were mourning the loss of their son. Mrs.White convinces Mr.White to use the second wish to bring Herbert back to life even though he doesn't want to. They start hearing a banging at the door and Mrs.White is convinced it's Herbert while Mr.White is trying to stop her.
The banging at the door gets louder so Mr.White hurriedly tries to find the monkey's paw. Mrs.White tries to open the door but before she can Mr.White makes his 3rd wish and wishes for his son to die again and for whatever is at the door to leave.
The knocking suddenly stops and Mrs.White goes to open the door. When she does there is no one standing outside.
