- Eurylochus notifies Odysseus, and the epic hero goes to Circe to confront her. Along the way, Hermes gives Odysseus a plant called Moly to protect him from Circe's magic, and tells Odysseus to force Circe to swear an oath not to hurt his men or himself anymore, on behalf of the Gods.
- "Take this herb, which is one of great virtue, and keep it about yourself when you go to Circe's house. It will be a talisman to you against every kind of mischief."

- When Odysseus arrives, Circe drugs his food and attempts to turn him into a pig, but the moly protects Odysseus. This confuses and somewhat annoys the sorceress. Seizing the opportunity, Odysseus forces her to swear an oath, despite Circe's attempts at making him back down. One of these attempts is to convince the hero to sleep with her, so Odysseus tells her she can only sleep with him if she swears the oath. When she does, Odysseus then sleeps with her, later being bathed and getting up to eat. However, Odysseus then again bargains with Circe, telling her that she must turn his men back into humans before he can eat.
- "Odysseus, why do you sit like that as though you were dumb, gnawing at your own heart, and refusing to eat and drink? Is it that you are still suspicious? You ought not to be, for I have already sworn solemnly that I will not hurt you."
- "Circe, where is the captain who could bear to touch this banquet, in my place? A decent man would see his company before him first."

- When Odysseus' men return to their human form, they come up to their leader, sobbing in fear and relief, and it even Circe is moved, so she offers them a feast. Even though the men by the ship are skeptical at first, eventually Odysseus' entire crew feasts. They end up staying with Circe for a year.
- "Odysseus, noble son of Laertes, go back at once to the sea where you have left your ship, and first draw it onto land. Then hide all your ship's gear and property in some cave, and come back here with your men."
- It feels good to be a human again!
