  • Sure thing! Step #2 for cellular respiration is called Krebs cycle, but inportant step before this is pyruvate oxidation. Pyruvate oxidation takes place in the mitochondrial matrix. So, before any reactions can begin, pyruvate must enter the mitochondrion. Simply put Pyruvate oxidation is a biochemical reaction that involves the oxidation of pyruvate to create acetyl CoA!
  • What's the acetyl CoA used for??
  • Woah That makes so much sense now thank you! One last question, How much ATP is made by the end of all these steps?
  • Acetyl CoA is used in the step #2 of Cellular respiration... The Krebs Cycle! the Krebs cycle or also known as the TCA cycle is a chain of reactions occurring in the mitochondria. It uses oxygen and gives out water and carbon dioxide as products. Here, ADP is converted into much needed ATP!
  • Thanks so much for your help, you truly are a genius.
  • Excellent question! We will learn about the last step in class tomorrow called "the electron transport chain". But by the end of cellular respiration adn all 3 steps, the total amount of ATP created from one glucose molecule is 36! Hope these explantions helped with your learning.
