- The first sighting of Desiree back in Mallard, “She was holding the hand of a girl, seven or eight, and black as tar” (Bennett 1). Immediately they notice Jude’s skin tone and compare her to something that people walk on. They acknowledge that she is a child, but that clearly doesn’t stop their colorism.
- Jude is very smart and is taking big steps towards her career, Plenty dull boys wanted to go to medical school but only smart girls foudn the nerve to apply (Bennett 205). This shows Jude's inteligence, and the impression to gives people.
- Due to Jude's dark complexion, she couldn't do anything without getting comments,“ ‘Bright colors looked vulgar against dark skin’, everyone said" (Bennett 40). Poor Jude couldn't even wear certain colors without having nasty comments made toward her. Due to situations like these Jude is very shy and has low confidence.
- How does the character look?
- Jude was working a lot more than usual to pay for Reese's top surgery, I just don't like fellin like some type of charity case (Bennett 210). Reese didn't like the idea of Jude paying for the surgery and it made him feel bad about himself. This was their first argument.
- What is the character like?
- To cope with how much she hates Mallard, she focuses on her passion which is running. Which in turn score her a scholarship to UCLA.

- What kind of person are they?
- Jude think a lot of about Stella, especially after she found out the truth. she is so fixated on this because she in shock that she can one related to someone who is capable of what Stella has done.
