- I hear degrees all the time. What are degrees when we are talking about angles?
- Degrees are a unit of measurement, like inches or pounds.

- Degrees measure rotation or turn of an angle in reference to a full circle.

- A sailor looks straight ahead through a spyglass at another ship. There is no turn, so he is looking at an angle of 0 degrees.

- Then he gets distracted by a bird and looks up. His head has turned upwards. Now he is looking at an angle of 45 degrees.
