- joe was a negative impact on Janie. he gave her a sense of hope and fun when they ran away together but after he becomes mayor joe becomes mean and starts abusing her and controlling her life.
- teacake was janes last marriage but also her best he is a gambler and works in the everglades and Jaine was happier with him than any other of her husbands and she feels free and happy with him.
- logan and Jaine got married because Jaine's grandma makes them and she hates being married to him because he is an old man and Jaine wants to have her childhood but logan was good to Jaine and m was a good person in her life
