- I ducked and tried to run for it, but the Soc caught my arm and twisted it behind my back, and shoved my face into the fountain. - The text explains that the Socs were picking a fight because Ponyboy and Johnny stayed with Cherry and Marcia earlier, and they were drunk and not thinking straight.
- The dialogue shows how desperate Ponyboy is to get the heck outta the situation- he just wants to have a normal life, and he doesn't wanna be like Johnny who is scared of his own shadow.
- The details in how the burning church is described as a 'red hell', give some context on how it felt- probably the worst thing ever felt, to be burnt alive.
