- was educated at what later was to become New York University, where he studided law. Admitted to the bar in 1841, Tilden was extremely successful as a lawyer, boasting many corporate clients, indcluding several of the railroads 
- Tilde won the election but there were allegations that they didnt let black people vote as much. they had to take a test if they wanted to they could fail cuse the qestions were bias
- An informal,unwritten deal that settled the disputed 1876 U.S. Presidential election.
