  • In 1944, Eliezer, a twelve year old boy is forced from the ghetto he was currently in, to a new smaller one. A few days later, the nazis start sending Jews to Auschwitz
  • Come with us.
  • Eliezer was separated from his dad to work in the building unit. after several days, Eliezer finds out his father is seen as too weak to work, and will be executed. He brings Eliezer his knife and spoon, and Eliezer is forced to leave.
  • Don't leave me here!
  • The Nazis decide to evacuate and kill everyone left in the camp. but the resistance movement strikes, setting the prisoners free, Eliezer is struck with food poisoning and spends weeks in the hospital. When he finally looks in the mirror, he is shocked.
  • From the depths of the mirror, a corpse gazed back at me.
  • In May 1944, the Nazis deported 15-year-old Wiesel and his family to Auschwitz. Wiesel's mother and the youngest of his three sisters died at Auschwitz, while he and his father later were moved to another camp.
  • Where are we going now?
  • Soon after Rosh Hashanah, the Nazi police performs a selection on the prisoners at Buna. All the prisoners pass before Dr. Mengele, a nazi, and he determines who is sentenced to death and who can go on living.
  • You all are sentenced to death.
  • Between 1941 and 1943, underground resistance movements developed in about 100 Jewish ghettos in Nazi-occupied eastern Europe. Their main goals were to organize uprisings, break out of the ghettos, and join partisan units in the fight against the Germans.
