- Suddenly Marjane had heard the Iranian National Anthem coming from the tv. She was very shocked as the national anthem had been forbidden from being played , and was replaced with the new government's Islamic Hymn.
- "Well, there's your proof that our army is still strong!
- "Welcome to the 8:00 news. 140 Iranian F-14s carried out bombing raids on Baghdad tonight.
- Her parents had then rushed over to the TV, not believing their ears either. It had been more than a year since they had heard it...
- "You don't believe anything! Here's the radio."
- "You can't always believe what they say. 8' O clock. The BBC is broadcasting too. Where's the radio?
- The shock of hearing the nation anthem had made them extremely emotional, they couldn't do more but cry. They were all overwhelmed.
- "140 Iranian bombers attacked Baghdad today..."
- "Ha! Ha!"
- Since the national anthem had played, Marjane had tried to explain to her parents that the army is still strong, and their efforts in the war will all be worth it, Hearing the nation anthem was that push. The news had then announced that there had been bombing raids on Baghdad.
- Marjane's father literally could not believe what he heard, and refused to believe it until he heard it from his self proclaimed reliable source...
- His source had said the same thing, Baghdad had been bombed, and Marjane's parents really did believe it now, becoming joyous and celebratory.
