My dog's name is Flyer. He's a big Greyhound and he used to be a real racer dog! He got sold because he was slow, but he's actually really fast and we love him and he's super cool and you should come see him run on the baseball field, he's so fast it's unreal. Plus, he's extremely smart and is really really tall!
He's named Flyer because he's so fast it looks like he's flying, he's super cool and the greatest dog in the whole wide world. He's extremely tall and looks scary but is really just a big softie!

Flyer was my dog from when I was born to 2nd grade. He was the best in the world, in little me's opinion.
One day after school...
Flyer was really sick. He shook hands with Elvis. I'm sorry.
I was insanely proud of him for just existing.

Flyer created a void in our family when he passed. We filled it with our current dog, Skippy, later, but it still wasn't the same.
I understood what my dad really meant, but it was still a weird thing to say.
I think about it from time to time.
