Texte du Storyboard

  • Woah, what's that shiny object over there?
  • What shiny object?
  • This one!
  • Oooo, that's a diamond!
  • Diamond? What's a diamond?
  • It is a giant molecule of carbon atoms.
  • Giant molecule of carbon atoms? I'm confused...this doesn't even look like carbon
  • It's an allotrope of carbon. Allotropes are the different forms of the element having different physical properties. The element carbon occurs in various forms in nature with different physical properties but nearly same chemical properties.
  • Wow! So what's special about diamond?
  • Well, Diamond is probably the most well-known carbon allotrope. As I said, it's a giant molecule of carbon atoms in which each carbon atom is bonded with four other carbon atoms forming a rigid three-dimensional structure, which is responsible for its hardness.
  • Woah, that's amazing!
  • Yup, it's the hardest natural substance known in the world and it doesn't conduct electricity because of absence of free electrons and its also a colorless and a transparent substance. It's really fascinating, isn't it?
