Texte du Storyboard

  • Good morning, class. Today, we will discuss about the Boyle's Law.
  • Good morning sir!
  • It states that the pressure and volume of a confined gas are inversely proportional to each other, with the temperature to be constant.
  • So, what is Boyle's Law? Boyle's Law is invented by Robert Boyle during the 16th century.
  • He performed an experiment wherein he trapped a fixed amount of air in the J-tube, he changed the pressure and controlled the temperature and then, he observed its effect to the volume of the air inside the J-tube.
  • He found out that as the pressure is increased, the volume decreases.
  • Since the volume and pressure are inversely proportional to each other, it can be expressed mathematically as P=k(1/V)where k is the proportionality constant.
  • Now, let's go to the laboratory.
  • Boyle used a J-shaped tube containing mercury, and a gas trapped at the close end of the tube which is under constant atmospheric pressure of 1 atm (or 760 torr).
  • He then tried increasing the pressure by another 760 torr by adding 760 mm of Hg. The amount of gas trapped then decreased to about half.
  • These can be seen and used in balloons or gas tanks and some instruments used are pressure gauge and barometer.
  • Cletus Rodelen R. PandanX - Quisumbing
  • Thank you sir!
  • That is all class, you may now go.
  • Goodbye sir! Thank you for the lesson.
