- I'm not selling anything.
- Something wrong?
- If you push the button, somewhere in the world someone you don't know will die. In return for which you will receive a payment of $50,000.
- I'll leave my card.
- ...
- I think you'd better leave. And take your button with you.
- Exactly that, it could be anyone. All we guarantee is that you don't know them. And, of course, that you wouldn't have to watch them die.
- When you said someone in the world would die, what did you mean?
- Would you like me to return the button unit?
- Here we meet our three characters: Norma, Arthur, and Mr. Steward. Mr. Steward left a button at Norma and Arthur's NYC flat earlier that day.
- If it is someone you've never seen in your life and never will see, someone whose death you don't even need to know about, you still wouldn't push the button?
- You mean you would?
- Mr. Steward explains to the Lewis' what the button unit he dropped off is for.
- Norma Is curious about the offer so she calls Mr. Steward about it.
- Norma says no to having the button returned but it shows up at her door anyways. She keeps bringing it up with Arthor but he wants nothing to do with it, they realize how different they are.
- Norma doesn't listen to her husband and pushes the button. She feels relieved that nothing immediately happens.
- Norma is mad because her husband died and she thought she wouldn't know them. Mr. steward counters well.
- Arthur's life insurance policy for $25,000, with double indemnity* for-
- *indemnity-compensate someone for harm or loss.
- You said I wouldn't know the one that died!
- My dear lady, do you really think you knew your husband?
