We all agree on having our country governed by elected representatives, but do slaves count as citizens? How do they work with our republic?
As a delegate from the north, I say that slaves are property, and thus shouldn't count as citizens!
As a delegate from the south, I say that slaves count! We want more representatives!
This shows George Washington and the delegates at the Constitutional Convention, and how they agree on having a republic - a country governed by elected representatives. They are also discussing a problematic question: Upon what principle shall slaves be computed in representation?

I PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA AND TO THE REPUBLIC FOR WHICH IT STANDS, ONE NATION UNDER GOD, INDIVISIBLE, WITH LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL!
We say "republic" almost every day in school during the Pledge of Allegiance, which is at the end of each morning announcement! I show this with kids in a classroom all saying the Pledge of Allegiance, with "republic" underlined and highlighted!
