Texte du Storyboard

  • Hello, I'm Sarah, a cook at the Weylin House. What'd ya like today Dana?
  • Yes she is. My other children were sold to other slave owners.
  • Just here to help Ms. Sarah. Carrie is a mute child of yours? She brought me here.
  • I told Tom I'd be staying here for a while because I'm a writer. It's just that I hate seeing playing the slave role.
  • Good plan. I know you're worried but I have to help Rufus as much as I can while I'm here.
  • Mr. Jennings, your teacher might say you're dumb but Kevin and I believe you're smart. You just have to read a bit more.
  • I like it when you read to me, Dana. It's fun. Mr. Jennings says I'm dumb.
  • The characters involved in this chapter are Tom, Margaret, Rufus, Luke, Sarah, Dana, Kevin, Carrie, and Nigel.
  • The theme in these chapters would be freedom and privilege.
  • As Dana and Kevin move back and forth certain time periods, they also move through various states of freedom and privilege. For example, Dana has to play the role of a slave in the antebellum South.
  • These chapters relate to the theme identity by focusing on the freedoms and privileges the main characters go through. Dana switches between her Californian, educated, and proud black woman to a fake identity of a slave in the antebellum South.
