- 1791- Slave revolt
- 1792 - Legislative Assembly grants all free men of color full citizenship
- All have full citizenship
- 1794 - The National Convention abolished slavery within French territories
- The first large-scale conflict over slavery in Saint-Domingue, initiating a lot of future conflict. The revolt defied Saint-Domingue's ideas that they had their slaves under control and brought slavery into discussion.
- 1802- Napoleon tries to reinstate slavery in Saint-Domingue
- The granting of citizenship to free colored men was a big moment in the rights of people of color. Treated more racial tension between blacks and whites in the colony.
- 1803 - Battle of Vertieres
- This was a major development in the history of Haiti, it defied the dominant way of life in Saint-Domingue. It set forth new ideals and morals for the question of slavery. Furthermore, it freed 90% of Saint-Domingues population, greatly influencing the fight for independence.
- 1804 - Saint-Domingue declared independent from France
- Saint-Domingue is independent
- Napoleon was the main reason the people of Saint-Domingue bagan to fear a return of slavery. This would lead to many of the inhabitants of Saint Domingue to seek independence

- The battle of Vertieres was the last major battle of the Haitian revolution. The battle was between the Haitian army and Napoleons French expeditionary forces who were trying to regain control of the island.
- Haiti is declared the first independent state in Latin America.
