  • In Friar Lawrence's cell, Romeo is overcome with grief and is wanting to know what punishment the prince has bestowed on him. Friar Lawrence informs him that he has been banished from Verona, a fate Romeo believes is worse than death. Friar Lawrence believes that Romeo should be more grateful for he and Juliet are still alive. He informs Romeo to visit Juliet, and then head out to Mantua. Once the word that Romeo and Juliet are married spreads, maybe the prince will change his verdict.
  • Capulet, Lady Capulet and Paris walk together. Due to the recent tragic events, Capulet was unable to ask Juliet about her feelings for Paris. Capulet informs Paris that Juliet will listen to his decision and they will marry in three days on a Thurday.

  • Just before dawn, Romeo prepares to lower himself from Juliet's window. They talk to each other and Romeo promises that they will see each other again. Romeo must exit Verona before sunlight, otherwise it will cost him his life.
  • Unknowing of her recent marriage, Lady Capulet calls for the nurse to bring Juliet to her. This is where they discuss their views on if Juliet should get married. Lady Capulet informs Juliet of Capulet's plan to marry Juliet and Paris on Thursday. She rejects and her father walks in enraged, threatening to disown Juliet.

  • Act 4 Scene 1
  • Friar Lawrence deviates a plan, where Juliet agrees to marry Paris. On the night before the wedding, she will drink a sleeping potion where she will appear dead for forty-eight hours. Upon waking up in the Capulet's tomb, Romeo will be waiting for her, so they both can live freely in Mantua away from their parents' feud.
  • Juliet returns home, where she finds her parents preparing for her wedding. She informs them that she has had a change in her mind and is looking forward to it. Capulet is so pleased that he insists on moving the wedding up day from Thursday to Wednesday.
