Storyboard Description

It is important to first ask people for hugs before giving them. Some people do not like to be touched and hugs can be scary. Asking first for a high five, a fist bump, or a hug are nice ways to show you that you care about others' space.

  • Joe sees Ms. Tracie right before getting a haircut. Joe says, "Good to see you! Can I have a hug?"
  • Joe sees his friend Grace from school at the movie theater. Joe says, "Hi Grace. How are you? Can I have a hug?"
  • At the Special Olympics, Joe sees his cousin that he hasn't seen in a long-time. As she is getting ready to leave, Joe runs up to her and gives her a hug. 
  • At the Special Olympics, Joe sees a cousin he hasn't seen in a long time. Joe is getting ready to leave. Joe says, "It was nice seeing you! Can I have a good-bye hug?" 
  • Joe sees Ms. Tracie before he is about to get a haircut. Joe runs and hugs her without asking first.
  • Ms. Tracie says, "Joe, I didn't see you and you scared me. Do you think next time you can ask for a hug first?"
  • Joe sees his friend Grace at the movie theater. He runs up to her and hugs her without asking first. 
  • Grace says, "You're nice and all, but I'd really like it if you would have asked to hug me first."
  • Joe's cousin says, "It was nice seeing you Joe. But to tell the truth, I am not a big hugger. I prefer fist bumps and high fives."
