Texte du Storyboard

  • After reading Gina's story, my heart was filled with sadness and heaviness. Gina's mother must have been delighted to find out about her pregnancy so I can't imagine how scared she was when she found out that her daughter was diagnosed with Smith Lemli Opitz Syndrome.
  • However, as I continued to read the story, I was amazed at how brave and hopeful Gina's mother was. With her mother's support, Gina was able to overcome many obstacles and truly shine. My favorite part was when Professor Mirabella looked at Gina as someone with a purpose, talent and emotions. This is a viewpoint that we as educators should have towards any students with special needs.
  • As a teacher, one of the most important values I believe is that all children should be respected and treated equally. Reading this story helped me to gain further knowledge on how I should support students like Gina. I want to hear more from parents with special needed children.
  • I have actually thought quite many times on how to help students like Gina and her parents. First, I will always schedule a parents teacher conference, so that they can see the progress of their children while discussing their worries with me.Second, I genuinely want parents to be as fully involved as possible. Therefore, I will ask them to tell me any techniques that has worked with their children and what didn't so that I can create a more personalized lesson plan for the students.
  • Third, I will be as flexible as I can with my schedule because I understand that things can come up very suddenly. If needed, I will also communicate with parents daily via emails or text messages.
  • Finally, I will differentiate all of my lessons through UDL.
