  • On September 1774 Important men met to talk about the disaster going on in the colonies. The men set up an army with George Washington in command. On April 1775 the disaster turned to war.
  • Battle of Yorktown 
  • On May 1775 the second continental congress met in Philadelphia to discuss what they should do, they decided to vote for independence from England. Thomas Jefferson was the one to write this declaration of independence. It heightened the point of popular sovereignty. The declaration of Independence was accepted on July 4, 1776.
  • The Treaty of Paris
  • In 1777, the American army won the battle of Saratoga. The success the American army achieved convinced the French to create an alliance to fight against their rival. The French brought weapons and machinery and trained soldiers along with warships.
  • A New Constitution 
  • August - October 1781, the French blockaded Chesapeake Bay. The final crucial of the American Revolution was fought in Yorktown, Virginia. The American and french troops surrounded the British troops. The British army gave in to George Washington on October 19, 1781.
  • 1783, American, Britain and French ambassadors signed the Treaty of Paris ending the war. Britain acknowledged the independence of the United States of America.
  • 1787, writers of the constitution were influenced by enlightenment ideas. They wrote about Locke which were natural rights, Hobbes the social contract, Montesquieu the separation of power and Rousseau a freely elected governments.
