  • Arthur Miller was born in Harlem, New York on October 17, 1915. He was an American playwright, essayist and screenwriter.
  • Communism
  • McCarthyism - A campaign against alleged communists in the US government. Many were blacklisted or lost their jobs even though most didn't belong to the communist party.HUAC - An investigative committee created in 1938 to investigate alleged disloyalty and subversive activities.HUAC tactics helped lead to McCarthyism by questioning a lot of people and if the person refused to answer HUAC would have them arrested.
  • Puritanism
  • Red Scare is the promotion of a widespread fear of a potential rise of communism, anarchism or other leftist ideologies by a society or state. It is often characterized as political propaganda.a list of persons who are disapproved of or are to be punished or boycotted.
  • Salem Witch Trials
  • Communism - Type of a government. individual people do not own land, factories, or machinery. Instead, the government or the whole community owns these things. Arthur Miller was a greater private supporter of communism. than he portrayed himself to be at the time, but he never actually joined the party. he appeared before HUAC, Miller refused to name anyone else who was involved in "subversive" political activities.
  • Puritanism - Puritans believed that it was necessary to be in a covenant relationship with God in order to be redeemed from one's sinful condition, that God had chosen to reveal salvation through preaching, and that the Holy Spirit was the energizing instrument of salvation.Salem is a Puritan community, and its inhabitants live in an extremely restrictive society
  • The infamous Salem witch trials were a series of prosecutions for witchcraft.Punishments were: hanging, torture, or rot in prison.
