In act 1 scene 1 Travis asked his mother for 50 cents for school, which she refused to give saying they didn't have 50 cents. Travis's Father, Walter, then came and gave Travis a dollar; telling him to go get a cab or buy some fruit with the extra change. When Travis left, Ruth, Walters wife had to give Walter 50 cents for coffee. They later talk about his liquor store plan.
In Act 1 Scene 2 Ruth is crying after finding out that she is pregnant with another baby. Mama comforts her to make sure she doesn't do anything rash, for example, getting rid of the baby.
In Act 2 Scene 1 Beneatha is doing the tribal dance to welcome the men back home, and Walter, while being drunk, decided to join her.
Mama after buying the house feelt bad about ruining her sons dreams, so she gives him 6,500 dollars and tells him to invest 3,500 into the liquor store he wanted and 3,000 dollars to a savings account for Benetha's college.
In Act 3 Scene 1 Walter told everyone that Willy Harris ran off with all the money mama gave him, including the money that was supposed to be in a savings account for benetha's college. This makes everyone depressed and mama beats Walter.
In Act 3 Scene 2 Walter called Lidner to their house to accept his offer on the house, but then he felt more confident and decided they were gonna stay strong as a family and that they weren't gonna give into the hard times.
