In Series 3, a catheter same as in Series 1 was placed to monitor ventilation. To inject ammonia onto the hindbrain, a needle was inserted into the cranial cavity over the hindbrain and connected to a tube for ammonia injection.
Thank you for your guidance Sir!
So nice! Looking forward to your results and presentation.
Hey squishy! I really want to study your species but I still don't know what specific topic. Hmm let me think...
blop blop
The fish exposed to high environmental ammonia (HEA) showed hyperventilation in Series 1. It was a gradual increase in ventilation as the entire body of the fish was exposed to ammonia. In Series 2, hypoventilation was observed and it was an immediate response compared to Series 1. The setup in Series 3 also resulted in hyperventilation. It is concluded that trout possesses both internal and external ammonia sensors with different functions. External sensors cause short-term hypoventilation. Ventilation control of trout is beneficial for homeostatic regulation of ammonia which is a respiratory gas and also a toxicant.
In teleost fish, ammonia is both a respiratory gas and a toxicant. My idea is you should study the brain and gills as internal and external ammonia sensing organs for ventilatory control in rainbow trout.
Hmm..
You can perform 3 series. Series 1 is to monitor the immediate ventilatory responses of fish to high environmental ammonia (HEA) in the external water. Series 2 to examine the effects on ventilation of direct perfusion of increasing ammonia concentrations onto the external surface of gill arches. Series 3 is similar to Series 2 but injection of different concentrations of ammonia onto the surface of the hindbrain
