  • Due to rich soil and long growing seasons, the colonists had an abundance of cash crops. Because of that, there was a need for labor.
  • The Transatlantic Slave Trade became the way slaves were transported. Manufactured goods would transported from Europe to Africa in exchange for slaves. The Middle passage was where slaves were transported to the Americas with a poorly-habitable boat. Finally, the products of slave labor would be sent to Europe. 
  • Owners would buy slaves and force them to work on their Plantations. These slaves were not payed and were treated very harshly. Owners would even sell their slaves, separating them from there families.
