  • Some of the reason were slave rebellions, abolitionist movement and economic problems
  • In 1791 a revolution by the Africans happened on the island of Saint Domingue. This rebellion scared the government and abolitionists used this as an example to change public opinions

  • Abolitionists started to oppose slavery since 1770. This led to the establishment of the Society For The Abolition of the Slave Trade in 1787. Thomas Clarkson and Granville Sharp were some of the leading abolitionists in the abolitionist movement.
  • Hi everyone I'm Thomas Clarkson!
  • Slavery should be banned!!!
  • Abolitionists found William Wilberforce and convinced him into the abolitionist movement after realising that they can only abolish slavery through the government. In 1789 Wilberforce introduced anti-slavery into the parliament. He continued to convince the government until The Abolition of the Slave Trade Act was made in 1807.
  • We should banned slavery because...
  • On July 4, 1776, America declared independence which led to profit decrease. Most people at that time were using slaves to plant sugarcanes and sold that for living.
  • But because of the Enlightenment, there’s new ways to make money faster and slaves aren’t much used anymore since they can replace with machines.
  • I hope that now it's clear about why did Britain abolish slavery!
