- The Reconstruction Era was the time after the Civil War when the states had to get used to and adapt to the changes brought by the war. The South was now back with the Union, and was suffering due to all the immense changes to their lifestyles and their income.
- I'm free!!!
- The 13th Amendment abolished slavery. Owning people and having them work in harsh conditions without proper treatment could not be done. This wasn't all though.
- The 14th Amendment said that being born in the US already grants you all the rights as a citizen, and no law or state can take that away. Citizenship is the same for everyone and nothing gets left out.
- The 15th Amendment gave every male of every race the right to vote. This could not be denied. That being said, women's rights were still not established, so freewomen were not able to vote.
- Despite having to set these laws in place, the South still found a way to limit the rights of former slaves. Laws like the Black codes and Jim crow laws still kept the South segregated.
- THERE'S IS STILL A PROBLEM, AND IT'LL TAKE MANY YEARS TO OVERCOME IT.
