Gabe and his sister (Jasmine) had an argument. The argument becomes heated and gabe hits his siter. Hitting his sister is an action Gabe does.
Owwwwhh!!!! MOMMMMM
As a result of Gabe's behavior, his mother shouted at him, he was forbidden from using his phone, and he was forced to complete his sister's duties. His mother is adding an unpleasant action or consequence to his punishment, such as yelling or housework, in order to prevent him from repeating his poor behavior. His mother taking away a valuable possession helps him learn from his mistake, therefore getting his phone taken away is an example of negative punishment.
GABE!!! Why would you act that way? You must complete all of her tasks for the following week and are prohibited from using your phone for the next two weeks.
But MOM!!!!???
1.5 months later!
Because of the consequences, Gabe now treats his sister with kindness and refrains from hitting her in the future. Positive reinforcement, such as Gabe's mother complimenting him, encourages future good behavior from Gabe. In order to encourage positive conduct, Gabe's mother also employs negative reinforcement by reducing the number of duties he must complete.
Gabe, Your behavior has much improved, Gabe. You have been really kind to your sister. I'll reduce your tasks as a reward, and you may have your phone back now.
Because his mother increases his phone time after each time Gabe cleans his room, this is an illustration of continual reinforcement. His mother does this to encourage excellent manners and behavior.
Good Job Gabe, for cleaning your room. It looks really clean :)
Thank you, Mom
Fixed ratio is used by Gabe's coach, who has him perform 10 pushups after each pair of missed shots. Gabe's ability to play basketball is enhanced by this.
Do 10 pushups since you missed 2 back to back shots!
This is an example of a fixed interval because Savannah's mother gets her ice cream every week (if she has straight A's). By doing this, savannah's mother is able to motivate savannah and reinforce positive working habits in her.
YAYYYY, Thank u Mom!!
Since you had straight A's this week, I will take you out for ice cream!
