Texte du Storyboard

  • I'm in my house with Sanaz, who is getting dressed to go out in public in the city of Tehran in Iran.
  • In Iran it's the law that woman conceal themselves from other people, especially men.
  • Why is it the law that woman have conceal themselves from other people? I wish we had the freedom to dress in what we want.
  • Oh Boy.
  • The streets of Tehran and other are patrolled by a militia who go around making sure people, especially women like Sanaz wear their clothes properly.
  • You better make sure you follow the laws, or else.
  • In Iran at the time, buses were segregated, but unlike by skin color, it was by gender. Women were supposed to sit in the back of the bus.
  • It's really hard to think of what Muslim women like Sanaz are thinking when they are going through this experience. Like most people she tries to distance herself from such thoughts. Sanaz is probably thinking of her brother and her distant boyfriend who lives in Turkey. She also thinks about how the laws were different when her mother was younger.
  • Why can't our country now be like what it was like when my mother was younger
  • We've finally made it to Sanaz's house, this where I will leave her on her doorstep, perhaps to confront her brother on the other side and to think of her boyfriend in her heart.
  • Sadly, no matter who the Iranian women were or what there backgrounds were like, they were never free from the regime's definition of Muslim Women
