  • They survived through their various fishing and hunting techniques, and their height as a group averaged over 6 feet!
  • The Karankawa tribe is a Native American known for many different things, including their substantial stature and cannibalistic habits. They often ate other rival tribes and lived near rivers, lakes, and streams.
  • The Battle of the Alamo is one of the most important battles in the history of Texas, and the Mexican troops ended up defeating the Texian troops at the Alamo in San Antonio. Over 600 deaths were recorded in this battle, and this battle was and is remembered to this day, and many soldiers yelled, "Remember the Alamo" as a battle cry in other battles.
  • The Galveston Hurricane of 1900 caused over 30 million dollars of damage, and it was one of the deadliest hurricanes ever. Galvestonians didn't take warnings from Cuba seriously and ended up being unprepared for the strong winds and high flooding levels.
  • The Dust Bowl began in 1930, and it was the culmination of many things. Coupled with an economic collapse including the fall of the stock market, bad farming methods and wind erosion blanketed a large portion of the U.S. with dust, and it caused many deaths on top of the economic crisis.
  • John F. Kennedy, also known as JFK, was the 35th president of the U.S., and during a campaign event in Dallas, TX, he was assassinated. He was passing by the Dealey Plaza when a man named Lee Harvey Oswald shot him from the 16th floor of a book depository. He was a veyr influential leader as he was the youngest ever to be elected as president, and he was also the first one who was Roman Catholic, so he was a trailblazer and an inspiration to others.
  • Sit in the back! Blacks sit in the back!
  • In the 1960's, the Civil Rights movement began, and it was to resolve many issues such as segregation, voting rights that were reserved for white men, and that blacks were treated unfairly in many manners in their daily lives. Rosa Parks famously refused to give up her bus seat for a white guy, and this combined with many other protests help end these problems when the Civil RIghts Act was signed in 1964, edning segregation.
