  • There was a gold rush in California in the Sacramento river in 1849.
  • "Then that's where I'm going!"
  • "Look I found gold at the Fraser and Thompson rivers!"
  • Over one thousand people left their homes to go mining for gold.
  • "Wait a sec! I'm unemployed! Eh who cares."
  • North to British Columbia
  • The gold rush in California ended in 1855.
  • "I'm James Douglas your governor!"
  • "I'm your royal engineer!"
  • Fortunately another gold rush started on the Thompson river and the Fraser river in 1857.
  • Many unemployed California miners headed North to British Columbia.
  • 10,000 people went and there was a threat of USA taking over the BC mainland so they made James Douglas the governor and got royal engineers to dispatch military presence and survey the region to provide technical assistance in building roads and towns.
