  • Joseph Stalin was born Josef Vissarionovich Djugashvili on December 18, 1878, in the small town of Gori, Georgia. Son of Besarion Jughashvili and Ketevan Geladze. As a boy, contracted smallpox leaving his face scarred.

  • His father Besarion Jughashvili, was a shoemaker and alcoholic who beat his son, and his mother was Keke Geladze a laundress. His mother a devout Russian orthodox Christian enrolled him in church school in Gori. Stalin's father died in 1891.
  • Beliefs
  • Stalin grew a sense of inferiority because his face was scarred by smallpox, years later an injury caused his left arm to be slightly deformed, He was treated cruel by other village children. Despite getting treated bad his efforts in school got him a scholarship to Tiflis Theological Seminary. In 1902 Arrested for coordinating labor strike and exiled to Siberia, from there he adopted the Stalin meaning "steel" in Russia.

  • I can't believe Stalin died of a heart attack and was not killed!
  •  Stalin gained infamy from the 1907 Bank robbery which resulted in several deaths and 250,000 rubles stolen (about 3.4 million U.S. dollars). Stalin was appointed to the newly created office of general secretary of the Communist Party, it gave him the control over all party member appointments. After Lenin's death, in 1924, Stalin set out to destroy the old party leadership and take total control.

  • Stalin was well-acquainted with the church. As a young man in his native Georgia, he had been first expelled from one seminary and then forced to leave another, after he was arrested for possessing illegal literature. By the time Stalin came to the height of his power, in the 1920s, the Russian Orthodox Church remained a powerful force, despite more than a decade of anti-religious measures under Vladimir Lenin.
  • Stalin is very smart, but his behavior is not tolerated.
  • One day everyone is going to be in terror.

  • To the great relief of many, he died of a massive heart attack on March 5, 1953. He is remembered to this day as the man who helped save his nation from Nazi domination—and as the mass murderer of the century, having overseen the deaths of between 8 million and 20 million of his own people.
