- Hi! I'm Todd and here is a little about my life during the Civil War. Food was very unappealing and basic such as, bacon, beans, coffee, and hard biscuits.
- Camp life included physical discomfort, always having to work, and us soldiers had to make the best of what they had like playing in bands to lift spirits.
- The battles were fought between 1861 and 1865. The battles were, Bull Run, Battle of Shiloh, Battle of Antietam, battle of Gettysburg, and Vicksburg Campaign.
- Soldiers went into surgery fully awake and they were strapped down. Hospitals were unprepared and none of us men would want to go to hospitals because they were so bad. I remember I got a horrible wound and it was awful to go through.
- Prisons were very overcrowded and super hot and filthy. It was a man's worst fear. Prisoners were immediately killed or sent into slavery.
- African American soldiers were used for slave labor. They were used for jobs, not war. They had limited "action" and could not be promoted in war. Also, African American soldiers were payed $10 per month, while white soldiers were payed $13.
