  • I have had such a bad day, I got a zero on my run-on grammar quiz then I Misty was being so rude to me at lunch.
  • Madison?! What's wrong? Why are you so upset?
  • Well I don't think I can help with Misty, but I can help you understand run-on sentences.
  • Really? I would really appreciate it Johnny.
  • Of course I will help you Madison. A common run-on sentence uses a comma splice. This type of run-on sentence is basically two independent sentences connected together through a comma.
  • Okay that makes sense. So there are other types of run-on sentences?
  • Yes, there are multiple forms of run-on sentences. For example, you said earlier, "I have had such a bad day, I got a zero on my run-on grammar quiz then I Misty was being so rude to me at lunch."
  • I didn't even realize what I was saying. I was so upset and scatter brained I wasn't thinking about how I must've sounded.
  • I understand why your sentence is a run-on. Another type of run-on sentence happens when someone is flustered and continues to talk without stopping as well. That is what you did before.
  • So the way I would fix that sentence could be by adding a period?
  • For that type of run-on you can use a period or conjunction to connect the sentences together. Do you think you are starting to understand now?
  • Yes I do believe I am beginning to understand the concept of run-on sentences. Thank you so much Johnny!
