  • A brother walked with us part of the way from 125th Street. Saw a damsel in distress and offered his assistance. A real Southern gentleman from the accent. Beautiful silk suit, too.
  • Guy has just come back from gathering a few of Angels things from her ex-boyfriend's apartment. Angel is laying on the sofa Upstage left, hungover from drinking too much the night before after getting fired and broken up with. It is a hot summer morning in Harlem, New York.

  • Ask and ye shall receive! It's a boy!
  • Guy sits down next to angel and offeres her coffee for her head. He then informs Angel of her actions in the transpired last night. He tells her how she cussed out her boyfriend last night in the middle of her set and was fired. Angel starts to wonder where she is going to live now that her old relationship is over and she is out of a job. Guy offers Angel a place to stay at his apartment.

  • Why don't you sing me some Sunday morning blues?
  • Guy heads to his sewing station down stage left, which he normally does when he's stressed, and Angel starts to feel the effects of alcohol and develop a bad headache. She waits for Delia to come back with some Asprin or Sam to come in with his famous hangover remidee. Angel worries about the possibility of living with Guy because although they are close friends they can't always share the same space.

  • My name is Leland.
  •  Sam enteres the apartment from stage right after spending a long night delivering babies. Delia is trying to cheer Angel up and offer books on typewriting so that she can find another job. Guy is stressing about hearing from Josophine. Angel worries tht she will not be able to find another job in singing.
  • My favorite Harlem healer! Come on in, Doc.
  • Angel feels better after receiving headache medice from Sam and starts to come up with a plan on what to do next. Sam starts to doze off after working a late night shift in center stage. Angel inquires as to why they never gave dating a chance and Sam implores that Angel deserves better than him. Angel starts pacing back and froth in the room.
  • Didn't your momma teach you not to sing no blues on the Lord's day?
  • Angel watches out the window as her friends leave for brunch. Leland is seen walking back and forth on the street looking for someone. He spots Angel in the window and asks how she is doing. Angel thinks he has the wrong person but he informs her that he is the one that helped her home the night before while she was drunk. Leland is young and charming and Angel can't help but to notice. They introduce themselves to each other officially and make a date to meet again.
