- Black wall street was an area that contained 35 square blocks. This area was made for black people where they lived and did business at. During this time segregation was very much alive, and the white people did not like the fact that the black people were so successful. They thought we have had them in shackles for so long and they think they can get more successful oh no.
- The rubuilding
- So they bombed and burned it down to the grown. The white people who were involved in this used the Dick Rowland and Sarah Page case as an excuse to tear apart Greenwood. During this MASSACRE about 300 people died both black and white. This horrible event in history lasted for 2 days from May 31st to June 1st of 1921.
- The insurance aka the white people called this MASSACRE a race riot so that they would be able to accept things like donations and fire insurance. Basically, the white people made loopholes so that the black community could not get the justice they deserved. The white people wouldn't give them their insurance money so that they could slowly start to buy the black people's land. The black people were tired of it so a successful lawyer in the community helped people start suing and most of them won. From this point on they start rebuilding but alot of people didnt. Some were terrified to come back and sold their land and never look baak.
- Through all of the obstacles of rebuilding Greenwood was rebuilt by the 1940s and even better than before. This went on until Urban renewal happened which kicked lots of black people out of their homes for a highway to be built.
