- Odysseus and his men are searching for cyclopes. They see an island and a cave, where the cyclops sleeps. "we saw a cavern yawning above the water, screened with laurel and many rams and goats about the place inside a sheepfold-"
- When they entered they found sheep and food like cheese/milk. Odysseus decided to stay, the cyclops knew they were there. After introducing themselves, the cyclops ate two of his men. "Neither reply nor pity came from him, but in one stride he clutched at my companions..."
- The cyclops was given wine then Odysseus and his men stabbed the cyclops in the eye. "I drew it from the coals and my four fellows gave me a hand, lugging it near the Cyclops as more than natural force nerved them..."
