Texte du Storyboard

  • Tituba was a South American Native, an Arawak Indian from a tribe in Guyana. The young woman was bought by Samuel Thompson and became a house slave.
  • Later on, it is believed that Tituba was then sold to Samuel Parris' father, as a means of settling debt.
  • Samuel Parris' daughter and niece claimed to be victims of witchcraft. The girls had been playing a fortune telling game when they experienced spontaneous fits. However, there is no evidence that Tituba participated.
  • When interrogated, Tituba confessed to possessing the girls to be under Satan's influence and withholding dangerous magical powers.
  • During the trial, many people suddenly experienced spontaneous fits. This further pointed to Tituba's guilt. Tituba spent 13 months in jail.
  • Although Samuel Parris' slave was convicted to jail for 13 months, Tituba had escaped execution. Where she had gone after that, no one may ever know. She vanished from any other historical records.
