- When Kate was little they struggled to feed a family of seven children with such little money. She was the youngest out of the seven.She worked as hard as the others did since she was little. she picked potatoes until her hands were raw, chopping wood, helping her father mind the animals and store.
- There was a rule that women were not supposed to ride alone. The coastal route took passengers up them up Yukon River,but people can only get past in the summer and very expensive. Kate took the cheaper more dangerous route.
- Kate opened up nursery to help hurt and sick people. She did surgery in no time. And she didn't even charge people for making them feel better.
