- Theme
- Most of A Long walk to water takes place in the wilderness. The african heat and wild life can be brutal! This really challenges the main characters.(Park 1,38-39,52-54)
- Social Issue
- One of the Greatest conflict in A long Walk To Water is man vs. society. An example of this is when the Muslims attacked Salva's School. In this book the muslims seem to have power over families like Salva's. (Park 5-6)
- Symbols
- The theme in a long walk to water is even though life will be hard and painful at times you have to keep going one step at a time. (Park53-54)
- The biggest social issue in a long walk to water is most likely power imbalance. When the Ethiopians force all the inocent refuges to the crocodile filled river and shot at them is just one example of the major power imbalances. (Park 77-79)
- The well plays an important role in the story. It reminds Nya and Salva that there is still hope for people in Sudan and that people can work together! (Park 111-115)
