Storyboard Description

Both an internal and external conflict for Joe is his struggle with his sexuality. His internal struggle is mostly about the inability to come out to his family. However, it is no secret and he knows this. From 2nd grade he was different. He wanted to cook with his mom and play with dolls. This turns into an external conflict as the school bully targets Joe and eventually questions Joe's boyfriend Colin who is athletic and popular.

  • Internal and External conflict in "Totally Joe" By: James Howe
  • Internal Conflict Joe struggles with being gay. One of his biggest internal conflicts is whether he should tell his family. Keeping it inside is a struggle for him as he feels he is looked at differently and thus his feelings become a burden.
  • External Conflict At school Joe struggles with the school bully who often calls Joe derogatory names. This ends up ruining his relationship with Colin who is afraid that people will find out about them.
