- Harold godwinson celebrates!
- All hail king godwinson!
- We all love you godwinson!
- The vikings invade!
- The Saxon army marches north!
- I’m just a fyrd, a part time soldier. When I’m not fighting in a battle, I am a farmer.
- We are housecarls, the elites of the saxon army. We are paid and work full time.
- As harold is crowned king of england, everybody rejoyces. However, harold knows better than to not expect any attacks, learning that the normans were building a big fleet of ships to attack.
- The fight commences!
- However, harald hardrada is the one who attacks first, and that to with a fleet of 300 ships. He captured the city of york, and got the attention of godwinson. But how did godwinson assemble his army so quickly?
- Harald hardrada is dead!
- The way harold managed to get all his troops ready in as short time as possible is that instead of waiting for all the fyrds in england, he gathered them as they marched along the long 180 mile path to york.
- The celebrations are cut short…
- The Saxon army finaly reaches york, and the battle commences on stanford bridge! Hardrada’s men made two big mistakes: they left all their armout on the ships, and they were all scattered. It was rumoured that a lone viking with an axe was the only thing stopping the saxons from crossing the bridge and overwhelming the vikings.
- The vikings were finaly able to bring in reinforcements led by hardrada’s son, but it was to late. The Saxons had a steep upper hand, and no ammount of reinforcements could change that. Eventualy, an english soldier managed to shoot hardrada in the neck, killing him. Godwinson let hardrada’s son go back to his homeland in peace, as long as he never attacked england again.
- The celebrations of harold were cut short because another enemy had just set foot in britan, the normans. This time godwinson won’t be as lucky…
