WE DESERVE TO VOTE
24th Amendment
BQ: Since separate but equal laws were implemented, why didn't that eradicate poll taxes and literacy tests, considering that white people didn't have to worry about them?
NO POLLTAX
NO POLLTAX
NO POLLTAX
The enactment of the 15th Amendment gave African-American MEN the right to vote. However, there were restrictions implemented by individual states to keep black men from voting. These included rigged literacy tests and poll fees.
26th Amendment
BQ: Why not increase the age to fight in war to 21, instead of decreasing the voting age to 18?
The enactment of the 19th Amendment gave all women the right to vote. This was a considerable victory for WHITE women, as the fight for women's suffrage was a 30 year battle. However, in the case of African-American women, they were met with the same restrictions on voting as black men. Which, at this point had been active for 50 years.
The enactment of the 24th Amendment made poll taxes and other taxes that hindered African-Americans from voting illegal.
The enactment of the 26th Amendment allowed the legal voting age to be decreased from 21 to 18. It was considered unfair for someone who is capable of fighting for their country, to not be able to vote in it.
I'm here to vote.
VOTE?? You're only 18 soldier! How about you go out and fight a brutal war and PROPERLY represent this country!
