स्टोरीबोर्ड पाठ

  • When an employee brings Gill a problem, he is not a good listener.
  • Narrator: John Gill is a busy man. No matter how fast he works, he's always being left behind.
  • Mr. Gill, five of our long time customers cancelled their service with us...
  • He would open his mail or answer the telephone, and would constantly glance at his watch while the employee is talking.
  • After they sent a notice of their cancellation, they also posted something on social media that made a big impact to our sales this week.
  • In addition, he makes outright judgement and would always dive into conclusion on any given situation.
  • And that's because of your poor customer handling. I won't blame them on cancelling, because what all of you is expecting that they would stay just because they're our customers for a long time. I bet you didn't also made an effort of persuading them to keep their service.
  • Oh, yes Mr. Gill. That is the main reason why I'm here. I'll be updating you of what was discussed on the meeting earlier. We are planning on inviting the customers for this to be settled properly and we are also planning on calling someone who can take down the posts on the internet.
  • As a result, John keeps being blindsided by new problems in the organization that seem to get more and more serious.
  • I know where you're coming from Mr. Gill and please know that we already did all ways possible to persuade them to stay. And the reason why they cancelled was not because of the customer service but because of the product itself--
  • Cut it. I don't have time for this. I still have many paperworks to do. What you should be doing right now is to plan what to do with the negative posts on social media and not standing here being defensive in front of me.
  • That's it? You know what, schedule another meeting in 30 minutes. I need more options and plans. Those are not enough.
  • But it will never be too late. Mr. Gill can still be an effective listener and being a good listener also makes him an effective leader. To do that, first thing he should do is to stop everything he is doing, and pay attention. Give the person in front an undivided attention. That is where effective listening starts. Next is to show that you are listening and let the person finish. After, that's when you can provide feedback but make sure to respond appropriately.
  • As we can see, the inhibitor to communication demonstrated on the conversation of Mr. Gill and the employee is Mr. Gill being closed-minded. Mr. Gill is a know-it-all type of leader and doesn't want to listen to what his employees are suggesting. A communication wouldn't be effective without listening to one another.
  • These are the things that Mr. Gill can start doing to be an effective listener. This will surely not just make him a great leader but will also make his job more easier because problems will be solved as a team.
