Let me tell you a bit about the history of parihaka
It all started on November 5 th 1881
The British came to invade Parihaka and came with over 1600 armed men, ready to attach . With John Bryce as the leader
We shall attach Parihaka
Year -1881
Whanau we must prepare for the arrival of the British troops , we will not fight we will be peaceful and welcoming , the children will dance and sing , while the woman make bread to offer the soldiers .
The village peacefully prepared for the arrival of the troops , they decided they would not fight and would instead welcome the newcomers to Parihaka
Well we should definitely remember this important day every year to remember our ancestors , what an amazing story.
Emergency Meeting
John Bryce and his troops didn't even look at the 500 or more loaves of bread that were baked , or the signing children they marched right past and headed towards Te Whiti.
WelcomeNau Mai
Bryce ordered the destruction of the village and took Te Whiti and Tohu to jail in the south island without any trial for 16 months.the soldiers burned the houses and destroyed the village , without leadership Parihaka crumbled .
You two are coming with us
