Stamp Act
The Boston Tea Party
After the French and Indian War, the British colonies had war debt.
Due to the war debt, the British proposed a new tax on paper products.
No taxation without representation!
Townshend Act
Intolerable Acts
No taxation without representation!
Due to the sheer amount of colonists protesting, the British decided to remove the Stamp Act.
However the British proposed another law, this time it was known as the Townshend Act. This law put taxes on beer and glass.
The Boston Massacre
Common Sense
It is more widely known as being an event that was used for propaganda, making neutral colonists join the Patriots.
The Boston Massacre was an event in which 5 colonists died.
Historians have stilled never figured out which side shot first.
The colonists in Boston had enough of the British, so the colonists agreed to throw boxes of tea in the river.
This was one of the main reasons for the Intolerable Acts.
For some odd reason, the colonists dressed up as Native Americans.
Sir, can you leave my house?
No, you mischievous rascal.
The Intolerable Acts brought upon many acts that were intolerable. For example, quartering soldiers in colonists' homes.
On January 10th, 1776, a book called "Common Sense" was published.
The book was more like a pamphlet. It brought up many points on why the colonists should declare independence.
Common Sense ended up converting a lot of neutral colonists into Patriots.
